Chemical Peels have become a new fascination for the people of Glasgow who are looking to rejuvenate their skin, reduce the signs of aging and minimise the appearance of imperfections. This cosmetic treatment is effective for treating sun damage, uneven pigmentation, fine lines and coarseness. Due to the rise in popularity of aesthetic medicine and cosmetic treatments of late there are several clinics now offering chemical peels, and other rejuvenating treatments in Glasgow. Although this is a positive as it gives the public a greater choice of where to go, it also poses the problem of uncertainty in knowing which clinic offers the best service. In an attempt to clarify this uncertainty we have conducted a review of arguably the best clinic for chemical peels in Glasgow: Dr Darren McKeown.

What Is A Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is the process of applying a chemical solution to the skin which causes it to blister and eventually peel off. The new skin that is left after the “peel” is usually smoother and less wrinkled. This procedure can be applied to the face, neck and hands. The peels work by causing a controlled injury to the skin, following which the skin undergoes a phase of self-repair, emerging afterwards in a better condition than it started. As harsh as it may sound, this process of damaging skin for it to shed and be left with an aesthetically improved product is used in various industries, such as tattooing. Although not the same result, the process of getting a tattoo is damaging the skin with a needle, through the healing process the skin scabs and falls off leaving behind fresh skin that is usually very smooth.

What Are Chemical Peels Used For?

There are various improvements that can be made to skin through application of a chemical peel, however the main reason it is so popular is to help reduce the superficial signs of ageing. Other benefits of a chemical peel include:

  • Reduce fine lines under the eyes and around the mouth
  • Treat wrinkles caused by sun damage and ageing
  • Improve the appearance of mild scars
  • Treat certain types of acne
  • Reduce age spots, freckles and dark patches
  • Improve look and feel of skin

Different Types of Chemical Peels Glasgow

There are various different types of chemical peels available in Glasgow. Dr McKeown groups the chemical peels available at his clinic according to how deep they go into the skin: superficial, medium and deep.

Deep Chemical Peels Glasgow

These are the most effective type of peel however longer “down time” is required and there is greater risk of complications.

Medium Chemical Peels

Naturally, the medium chemical peel lies somewhere between the deep and the superficial. There is some “down time” required although not as much as the deep peel, and not the same risks either. This peel cannot be repeated the same way that the superficial peel can.

Superficial Chemical Peels

One superficial peel has a much less noticeable result however can be built upon by having the treatment repeated. There is next to no “down time” required for a superficial chemical peel which is why it is a popular option to have repeated a few times over a period of time to achieve the desired result.
